English in nowadays life

When we are students our teachers always encourage us to learn English, they always say that if we what to have more chances in the future, we need to start learning that language, but as wild boys the most of times we ignore that advices because we think they are just nagging us. And then, one day you grow up, and you realize that they where totally right, you notice that English is everywhere. But calm down, never it´s to late for start, and how the song says "what better place than here, what better time than know" (Rage against the machine:Guerrilla Radio) . So I want to give you some advices to improve your skills in English as soon as possible, but before that, let me tell you what English its so important nowadays.

Why English is so important?

English is not the language that have more native speakers, however it´s the official language for business, so if you want to work for a international company, you must to dominate the language perfectly. Also English as a special status in almost 75 territories all over the world, so if you like to travel, you gonna need it for communication, and yes I know what you are thinking, its sad, but its also true. But maybe you can say, "what the hell I don´t like work and I don´t like travel nether", but what happens with music, I´m pretty shure that you like music, and if you are lover of good music, you maybe like bands like Guns n Roses, R.E.M, Aereosmith, Led Zeppelin, and guess what, all this greats bands sing in English. And I can continue with all this, but I don´t want you to get bored, so lets start with some tips that may help you to improve your skills.

Look, listen and live!

  • LEARN VOCABULARY WITH SENTENCES:  It make not sense to learn words without relation. All the words in real life have context, and inside of that context is where the words take their meaning. It´s much easier to our brain to learn in this way, however, many times we use to focus in list of separate words. So, every time you learn a new word, don´t write down only its meaning, instead, you need to write down the sentence in the original language where you learn the word.
  • DON´T STUDY MORE GRAMMAR: When  we wanna talk, first we look for the verbs later the nouns, and then everything come out, "the proper structure". We first had a idea of what we wanna say in a way very rudimentary, and then we make the sentence pretty with some adverbs,  conjugations, nouns, verbs and  predicates in different combinations.
  • PRACTICE ANSWERS AND QUESTIONS: We use to listen and repeat, and that brother, it´s a mistake, it´s much better that somebody ask you a question and you answer than just listen and repeat. In this way you are forced to think in English so you can get enough skills to develop in real situations.
  • PHRASAL VERBS: The spoken English it´s very different that the written English. In a book you can read "The theater sold all the tickets", but in spoken English you may listen "They sold out". So, if you already have a intermediate English level, the next step it´s to learn the most common phrasal verbs in English.
  • IT´S MUCH BETTER LISTEN THAN READ. Read it´s important,  even more if you wanna make bigger your vocabulary, but reading it´s not very helpful in the streets. It´s better to listen a interview because you are witnessing real situations and no predefined scrips.
